Guilt, empathy, compassion these are things that we often refer to as being proof that the human being has a spirit a soul with which we are guided by a benevolent creator.
These thing make us different from the animals that we are so proud to point out we are better then, But how intrinsic are these quality’s to the spirit made flesh? What makes me question (other then it what I do?)
First animals yes for the most part they seem contented to go through there existence and show no signs of being self aware. Simply living out there biological mandates till they die. But every once in a while one of them will break from that mold and do some thing which we classify as utterly human. I saw a documentary that profiled the life of a female lioness that after the loss of her cubs took to adopting baby gazelles. A photo graph of a monkey working a water spout for the blind, A Mere cat sick with snake venom adventure out to save a nephew that had been abandon. And I am sure most people have herd at least one dog or cat or dolphin rescue story.
There is a spiritual practice call animism, The belief that natural objects, natural phenomena, and the universe itself possess souls, various cultures have adopted this belief and Animals are praised for being uncompromised examples of spiritual purity. Possessing the refined aspects that the human participant hopes to emulate by following there “spirit totem”.
So many of us have wondered do animals have souls. But have you every wondered if humans have (an odd concept to be sure).
The condition Known as sociopath is when a human being has an inability to form bonds of emotion with others, feels no remorse for bad behavior, and generally thinks only of them selves.
Are these people evidence of a soulless vessel? In many bibles there are references to a finite number of souls and warnings about the coming of the soulless. And indeed very few sociopaths bother with religion unless they are using it for personal gain such as status.
Are empathy and remorse so tied to having a soul that they can not be separated, or are we simply so needy and selfish we can’t picture someone not care about us as a good person.
It’s no secret that when a sociopath goes bad they go really bad most become cereal killers. Even the non violent ones are likely to lie, cheat and steal to get ahead in the world.
Unlike my normal posts this one is free of my opinion and is simply wondering. Is there something to this could some aspect of it lead to touching truth?
